Session #9 - June 12th

It's been a while since we got together and played baseball, due to Memorial Day and the Israeli Day Parade.  For a while, given the iffy weather, it looked like we may not play, but alas, the weather held - and we all had some fun.

As we have for several weeks, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade kids started practicing early on - those who arrived early got some extra batting practice in.  As more and more players arrived, we switched from practicing to playing a game, and kept on going right up until the awards ceremony.

The 1st and 2nd graders also started practicing early, and switched into a full game once enough players arrived.  At one point, during practice, a player made an *AWESOME* sliding catch right along the 1st base line.  If you didn't see it, you missed a thing of beauty.  If this were the pros, it would have ended up on ESPN's SportsCenter highlight reel!  During game play, the 1st and 2nd graders got very serious about playing by the official baseball rules - demonstrating all their learnings and progression from the first few sessions.  Even Coach Rezak couldn't resist participating, in spite of strict doctor warnings (and watchful eyes from his wife) due to a leg injury.

The kindergartners are always special to watch - they have learned so much this season until tutelage from Marc & Shea, their dedicated coaches.

This week's session was immediately followed by our awards ceremony, during which every player was called up by name and received their personalized trophy.  This year, each player received a bobblehead doll.

This session's photos were taken by Kayla, our "staff photographer".  Thanks, Kayla!!

Sluggers 2011 - Session #9

Some notes for this week:
  • We play our last baseball session next Sunday, June 19th.
  • If there were any issues with any of the trophies, please do let me know - e.g. if the names were misspelled, etc.
  • Kudos to all the volunteers who helped out on Sunday, especially Laura Lelonek, who came to help out even though she wasn't feeling well at all.  Thanks, Laura!
