Solomon's Sluggers Coaches Handbook

Tips from Ira & John

Each week, Ira & John focus on one of the skill areas needed in baseball.  After the instruction, we'll post the relevant points here, so that parents and coaches can reinforce:

Throwing and Catching

Throw and catch the Baseball with your feet!
  • Make sure you're moving toward your target
  • Move your feet to the ball (Don't reach for the ball)
Remember the "T" position
  • Elbow has to be as high as the shoulder
  • Glove points at target (Then tucks to your side)
  • High Five (Release high), and put your hand in your pocket (Full follow through)

Hitting

Work from the ground up!
  1. Base:  Feet wider than your shoulders... Toes pointing forward to the plate!
  2. Balance:  Slightly more weight on the back foot.
  3. Bat:  Make sure door knocking knuckle are lined up, and hands are around the back ear.
  4. Elbows:  Keep them down!!!  Relaxed upper body, with arms making a triangle!
  5. Stride:  Small replacement step (Pick up and put down)  DON'T "STEP AT THE PITCHER"!!!
